Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's Message to Diaspora Children

Now in its 16th year, this Forum has come to be known as the most important economic conference in Israel in which the most central and pressing issues in the Israeli market are discussed. Every year, the Minister of Finance directs the forum. Among the participants are prime ministers (past and present), Ministers, MKs, leading figures in the business world, academics, and public officials. Traditionally, the last speech of the forum is reserved for the Prime Minister.

Each topic dealt with during the conference is researched by a team of experts who begin their work half-a-year before the forum is held. At the forum, the team presents its findings and proposes practical solutions to pressing economic and social issues in order to influence public agenda and set forth basic guidelines for the formulation of economic policy of Israel.

Exhibition „ISRAEL. Light Touch” 2008 was opened at the Latvian Photography Museum from April 30 till May 15, 2008, and at the Tolerance Centre of the Vilnius Gaon Jewish State Museum in Lithuania from May 13 till June 5, 2008.

This year, for the second time, the stand of the State of Israel, organized by the Embassy of Israel, was hosted by the International Tourism Fair ‘Balttour 2008’ taking place from February 8 - 10.

This year the Embassy’s representatives were joined by Mr. Yehuda Chen, Director of the Central & Southern Europe Department of the Israel Ministry of Tourism, as well as  accompanied by the Israeli Incoming tourist agency’s Diesenhaus Unitours and Latvian tourist agency’s Rafi Travel professionals. Visitors of the Israeli stand could receive colorful publications about the most famous and beautiful places of Israel. The guests were able to receive any information on tourism, health care and recreation possibilities in Israel.

The Embassy also offered the visitors to taste the finest Israeli wine, kindly provided by Tabakas Nams Company and samples of famous Nevo, Dead Sea SPA Cosmetics, kindly provided by Iliad Baltija. During the Fair the visitors of the Israeli stand could receive special offers for the tour packages to Israel, organized by the Rafi Travel Agency.

The stand attracted many professionals of the tourism field and individuals who visited the Fair to collect information enabling them to plan their trips.

According to the information provided by the Ministry of Economics of the Republic of Latvia, passenger flow between Latvia and Israel at the international airport ”Riga” in 2007 reached 19509 people (from Tel Aviv – 10018, to Tel Aviv – 9491.

2008. gada 6. februārī Rīgas Ebreju kopienas namā tika atklāta divu pasaulslavenu preses fotogrāfu darbu izstāde “Izraēla: vēsture fotogrāfijās”. Izraēlas Valsts vēstniecība Latvijā, Latvijas Republikas Ārlietu ministrija un Latvijas Ebreju draudžu un kopienu padome sadarbībā ar izstādes iniciatoru un patieso virzītājspēku, biznesa pasaules pārstāvi Dmitriju Krupņikovu ieguldīja lielu darbu, lai tā būs atvērta apmeklētājiem katru dienu līdz 29. februārim no plkst. 12:00 līdz 18:00. Izstādes atklāšanu pagodināja LR prezidents Valdis Zatlers, LR Ārlietu ministrs Māris Riekstiņš, LR Kultūras ministre Helēna Demakova, kā arī daudzas citas Latvijā pazīstamas amatpersonas un kultūras darbinieki.

Pols Goldmans (1900 – 1986) un Dāvids Rubingers (1924 – ), kuri tiek uzskatīti par vieniem no izcilākajiem visu laiku preses fotogrāfijas pārstāvjiem, bija tie, kas ar kamerām rokās izsekoja visiem galvenajiem Izraēlas Valsts attīstības momentiem. Izstādē ir aplūkojamas vairāk nekā 100 melnbaltas fotogrāfijas, kurās ir iemūžinātas unikālas ainas un cilvēki, kas tagad jau veido Izraēlas tautas kolektīvo atmiņu. Izstādē aplūkojamie darbi viennozīmīgi ir publicistiskās fotogrāfijas pērle, gan izvērtējot tos no vēsturiski politiskā aspekta, gan fotogrāfijas mākslinieciskā viedokļa.

On 6th of February, 2008 a photo exhibition “Israel: History in Pictures” where the works of Paul Goldman and David Rubinger was opened in Jewish Community House. The opening ceremony was unveiled by the President of Latvia, Minister of Culture, Foreign Minister and the Ambassador of Israel to Latvia Chen Ivri. The exhibition, which is dedicated to 60th anniversary of the State of Israel was initiated by Dmitrijs Krupnikovs and organized with the help of the Embassy of Israel, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Latvian Jewish Community Council.
